The threat pose to residents of kogi state by flood reached a frightening dimension on Friday when flood took over the greater portion of the ever busy Kabawa road in Lokoja, the state capital, thereby impeding human and vehicular movement, The Reporters,an online publication, reports.
Our correspondent who plied the road between 9 a.m and 10 a m on Friday reports that motor, and tricycle drivers as well as commercial motorcycle riders had difficulty plying the flooded on road.
As a result of the unfortunate development, tranort fare from either Gadumo, ammy barracks, and post office to the new market, enroute Kabawa road, has gone up by between 70 and 100 per cent, depending on negotiation and the nature of transportation.
The online publication recalls that the flood had earlier sent hundreds of residents of Lokoja and its environs, mostly those living at the bank of River Niger packing to safer areas as the river reaches the unprecedented Level volume amidst increasing rainfall.
The Correspondent also reports that the eastern section of Ganaja road has also been taken over by flood, thus forcing commuters to disembark from vehicle and take to canoe to reach the western side before getting to lokoja, and vis versa.
“Kabawa has been taken over by flood, we are in for trouble this year,as far as flood is concerned.
“May God bless help us to survive this natural disaster,” a tricycle driver whose tricycle got hooked in the high volume of water in the middle of the road, told his perplexed passengers.
Kogi state which had more than half of its 21 local government areas submerged by flood in 2012, is among states of the federation NiMET predicted would experience flood again in 2020.
