The Police Command Ogun State has unveiled a 24-hour toll-free emergency line and inaugurated the new Ota District Police Headquarters as part of renewed efforts to strengthen crime prevention and community policing in the state.
The Commissioner of Police in the state,CP Bode Ojajuni, urged residents to promptly report suspicious activities, security threats and distress situations through the command’s emergency response line, 08100009111.
Ojajuni, who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Bolanle Mustapha, made the call on Thursday during the commissioning ceremony of the Ota District Police Headquarters in Ota.
According to him, the emergency line, known as the “Gateway Shield” initiative, is accessible free of charge round the clock to enable residents reach security operatives quickly during emergencies.
“We want to implore members of the public to make use of the police control room to report any incident in times of distress or whenever the attention of the police is needed,” he said.
The police commissioner also directed Divisional Police Officers across the state to display the emergency number prominently at their stations to improve public awareness and access to rapid police intervention.
Ojajuni noted that the establishment of the new police headquarters is in line with the policing vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP.Tunde Disu, aimed at deepening security presence and enhancing grassroots policing.
He disclosed that the project was facilitated by the Olota of Ota, Oba Adeyemi Obalanlege, to bring security services closer to residents and improve response to criminal activities in the area.
Speaking at the event, Obalanlege described the inauguration of the Ota Central Police Divisional Headquarters and a 40-bed Primary Health Centre as major milestones for the people of Ota and Aworiland.
“These projects stand as enduring symbols of progress, improved security, accessible healthcare and purposeful governance for our people,” the monarch said.
The traditional ruler commended President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to national development and praised Governor Dapo Abiodun for sustaining peace and creating an investment-friendly environment in Ogun State.
He also acknowledged the role of Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire in facilitating the projects through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals.
