Bank robbery in Kogi: Police lose 8 officers

The Police Command in kogi state said it lost 8 officers during the Thursday armed robbery attack on First Bank branch and a police station in Isanlu in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the command,DSP William Aya, disclosed this in a statement at the disposal of Duaglobalnews, an online publication in Lokoja on Friday

He said:On 4/6/2020 at about 1600hrs, the Kogi State Police Command received report of the unfortunate incident where some armed robbers numbering about 25 invaded the Isanlu town simultaneously and attacked the First Bank Branch.

“They also attacked the Police Station, armed with AK47 rifles and dynamites to gain access to the facilities.

” During the incident, eight Police Officers lost their lives among which were three Women Police Officers while others sustained various degrees of injuries.

“The injured Officers were taken to the Hospital for treatment while the corpses were deposited at the Mortuary.

“The Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command has deployed team of Operatives to the area.

“The team comprises of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Tactical and Operational Officers as well as Homicide detectives.

“This is in synergy with other security agencies to the scene to cumb the area with the view of arresting the culprits as well as to reassure the residents of their safety.

“The Commissioner of Police urges members of the public to sharpen their power of observation and report any suspicious movement or characters within and around Isanlu area to the Police or any nearest security agency.

“The Commissioner wishes to reassure the public that the case will be investigated to its logical conclusion and the perpetrators brought to book.
