,,,,No loss of lives, injuries.

By Correspondent in Ota.

Scores of commuters and traders on Tuesday escaped what could have been a major tragedy when a truck loaded with sachet water lost control and overturned at the busy Toll Gate area of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

Our correspondent reports that the incident, which occurred around 4:45 p.m., caused panic among road users and temporarily disrupted traffic along the ever-busy corridor.

Confirming the development, the Commander of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Ota Unit, Mr. Salau Hammed, said the truck was travelling from Ilo-Awera towards Toll Gate when the driver reportedly lost control due to excessive speed.

Hammed, however, expressed gratitude that no life was lost and no injury was recorded in the accident.

“We thank God that no life was lost and no one sustained any form of injury in the accident,” he said.

The TRACE commander cautioned motorists against speeding and urged vehicle owners to always ensure that their vehicles were roadworthy before embarking on journeys.

He also appealed to commercial motorcyclists and roadside traders to avoid unsafe activities along highways in order to prevent needless accidents and loss of lives.

Hammed further advised commercial bus drivers against indiscriminate stopping to pick passengers, warning that such actions could expose them to the danger of being rammed into by articulated vehicles.

He reiterated TRACE’s commitment to strict enforcement of traffic regulations around the Toll Gate axis and other parts of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway to reduce avoidable road crashes.

According to him, TRACE officials and other emergency responders have commenced working to remove the overturned vehicle and restore the free flow of traffic on the highway.
