The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger state has depeened with the police inviting the state chairman of the party, Engineer Mohammed Jibril Imam and other executive members of the party for questioning over alleged mismanagement and misappropriation of funds.
Duaglobalnews reports that the development is also sequel to the calls for the removal of the chairman over alleged poor handling of the party affairs.
This development, the online media further gathered led to the loss of the Governor’s Ward in Kontagora to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the last Local Government Council election in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the crisis degenerated into the recent expulsion of former Deputy Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Musa Ibeto. He was deputy to Dr Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, immediate past governor of the state among other members of the party.
The Financial Secretary of the party in the state, Mohammed Idris, had petitioned the Commissioner of police in the state, accusing Imam and his team of financial misappropriation and lack of records for virtually all the financial dealings of the party since they came on board.
“It is very unfortunate that the APC has received several funds but unfortunately, no records of how and when such monies were spent and for what particular purpose.
“As the financial secretary, I should be in the know of all the party’s financial dealings,”he said.
Idris, who noted eleven sources where monies came into the party coffers in the past few years said the monies could not be accounted for.
He further said that as the Financial Secretary, he had not got records of the income and expenses as received by the party over time.
Idris said, “As the financial Secretary, I have no records of all the mentioned income in accordance with my duties as contained in the party’s constitution and article 14:8 which has been breached.”
Idris added that as the Financial Secretary, he was blocked from receiving bank alerts on the day-to-day transactions of the APC , adding that no reason, whatsoever, was given for that development.
Our correspondent, however learnt that the party, after an emergency meeting, sent a delegation led by the state secretary, Barrister Mohammed Liman to meet with the police last Friday, with a view to‘settling the matter amicably at party level’.
“What is happening in APC is one of such politicking that may lead to explosion in the party if care is not taken, a source close to the party chairman said.
The source, who spoke to our correspondent on the condition of anonymity, however, stressed the need for the chairman to always consult other members in taking decision in the party.
Meanwhile, all efforts to seek the chairman’s reaction on the issue proved abortive as he switched off his mobile phone.
