The 36 Political Elevation Group (36 PEG), a non-partisan civic organisation with presence across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, has commended the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Comrade Joel Salifu, for what it described as exemplary loyalty, humility and commitment to grassroots-oriented governance.
The group said the deputy governor had distinguished himself through unwavering support for the administration of Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and consistent efforts aimed at promoting peace, development and unity in the state.
In a statement issued by Prince Dan Olaitan Dada,President of 36 PEG in Lokoja and a copy made available to The Reporters on Thursday,,the organisation noted that deputy governors in Nigeria are often overshadowed by succession politics and internal power struggles, but said Salifu had chosen the path of service and stability since assuming office on January 27, 2024.
According to the group ,Salifu’s approach to governance reflects the kind of political culture the group has been advocating nationwide, where loyalty to mandate and service to the people take precedence over personal ambition.
The group quoted the deputy governor as saying that he had no political ambition beyond supporting his principal and cautioned against excessive ambition capable of distracting public office holders from governance and service delivery.
36 PEG described Salifu as a stabilising force in the administration of Kogi State, stressing that he had remained committed to the implementation of the government’s “Advance New Direction Agenda.”
The organisation further praised Comrade Salihu for consistently supporting government policies on security, infrastructure development and civil service reforms, adding that his conduct had strengthened harmony within the administration.
Highlighting his grassroots influence, the group recalled that the deputy governor recently hosted a political reception in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area, where more than 600 members of opposition political parties reportedly defected to the ruling APC.
It added that traditional rulers at the event commended Salifu for his humility, loyalty and effective representation of the people of Ofu Local Government Area and Kogi East in general.
The group also acknowledged the deputy governor’s interventions on issues affecting ordinary citizens, including his advocacy for improved security in Omala Local Government Area, support for the implementation of the ₦72,500 minimum wage and periodic distribution of palliatives to vulnerable residents.
According to the group ,Salifu has equally encouraged teachers, religious leaders and civil society groups to partner with government in promoting peace and development across the state.
On accountability and public communication, 36 PEG noted that the deputy governor’s office demonstrated transparency in responding promptly to allegations raised against him in May 2025 by clarifying that he was outside the state on official assignment.
The group explained that its core objectives include promoting issue-based politics, advancing dialogue and conflict resolution, strengthening civic accountability and encouraging national cohesion through leadership focused on public interest rather than personal ego.
The organization said examples such as Salifu’s leadership style deserve national recognition because they demonstrate that governance works better when leaders place the welfare of the people above political rivalry.
The group therefore urged political leaders across the country to emulate the Kogi example by embracing loyalty, humility and people-centred governance as essential ingredients for political stability and public trust.
“36 PEG will continue to monitor, document and celebrate leaders who choose the path of service above self. If Kogi can do it, every state can,” Prince Dada promised.
