The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State chapter, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, has expressed deep concern over the nation’s evolving security challenges, calling for urgent and coordinated action to restore public confidence and safety across the country.
Speaking during the association’s council meeting held in Minna over the weekend, the cleric urged President Bola Tinubu and Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago to intensify efforts at addressing the situation before it escalates further.
He noted that recent developments, including attacks affecting both civilians and security personnel, underscore the need for a more proactive and strategic response.
Most Rev. Yohanna observed that many Nigerians are increasingly uneasy, citing reports of kidnappings, destruction of property, and disruptions to livelihoods in some parts of the country.
He stressed that the current climate calls for reassurance through visible and effective security measures, while also encouraging citizens to remain alert and cooperate with authorities.
The CAN chairman attributed part of the challenge to socio-economic pressures and called on leaders at all levels to align policies with the realities faced by citizens.
He also referenced concerns raised in public discourse and advisories from foreign missions, urging the government to carefully assess such signals and respond appropriately to maintain national stability.
While acknowledging circulating reports of potential threats in parts of the country, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, the cleric emphasized the importance of vigilance without panic.
He called on Nigerians to be security-conscious, support lawful efforts, and remain united in the face of challenges.
The CAN in the state further appealed for introspection and collective responsibility, noting that lasting progress requires both leadership commitment and positive changes in citizens’ attitudes.
According to him, a renewed focus on shared values, accountability, and cooperation will play a key role in strengthening the nation’s resilience.
Despite the concerns, Most Rev. Yohanna expressed optimism about the country’s future, encouraging Nigerians to remain hopeful and steadfast.
He reaffirmed his belief that with sustained effort, unity, and faith, the nation will overcome its present challenges and move towards a more secure and stable society.
