All roads lead to Magongo as the community, citizens described as the home of hospitality and bravery, prepares for the 2026 Owiya Osese festival which promises to be an unforgettable cultural and social extravaganza packed with excitement, tradition, and vibrant entertainment soon.The event will commence on April 27,2026.
The Owiya Osese Festival is a vibrant cultural celebration in Magongo, reflecting the rich heritage, unity, and ancestral pride of the people, featuring the traditional initiation of young girls,typically around the age of 15,into womanhood as a symbol of maturity, dignity, and cultural continuity.
The Chairman, Central Planning Committee for the event, Prince Jordan Akpata, told The Reporters in Lokoja on Sunday in a statement,that residents and visitors alike will be treated to a rich lineup of activities designed to promote unity, celebrate heritage, and showcase local talents.
The festivities, he added, will kick off on April 28 with a Health Programme, setting the tone for a people-centered celebration that prioritizes well-being, promises free health talks, basic medical checks, and awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging healthier lifestyles within the community.
Akpata,who is also the National President of Magongo Development Association, MDA, further disclosed that on April 29, the spotlight shifts to culture and cuisine with the much-anticipated Ekpase Ofufuwa Eating and Cooking Competition.
This unique event will bring together skilled cooks and daring contestants in a flavorful contest that celebrates local delicacies and culinary heritage, he stressed.
According to him,the excitement will reach new heights on April 30 with a grand Carnival, where the streets will come alive with music, dance, colourful costumes, and electrifying performances, pointing out that it will be a spectacle of joy and artistic expression, drawing crowds from far and near.
He explained that May 1 promises a blend of adventure, intellect, and glamour, adding that participants will embark on a Tourism Visit to Ogegenosi.mountain to explore the beauty and cultural significance of the area.
The national president of the association urged that fitness enthusiasts can test their endurance in a Marathon, while language lovers engage in the Osayin Language Quiz Competition, promoting the preservation of indigenous knowledge.
The day will climax with the dazzling Miss Magongo Beauty Pageant, where elegance, intelligence, and cultural pride take centre stage.
The celebrations peak on May 2 with a grand finale as outlined in the official programme card.
The evening will be electrified by the much-awaited Tibile Eregba Music, promising rhythm, dance, and unforgettable performances that will keep the crowd on their feet.
Prince Akpata said the week-long celebration will wrap up on May 3 with a Thanksgiving Service across various churches, offering moments of reflection, gratitude, and unity after days of vibrant festivities.
