The Kogi State Government has described President Bola Tinubu’s move to establish State Police as a landmark reform capable of transforming Nigeria’s security architecture and accelerating national growth and development.
The Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kingsley Fanwo, made this known in a statement issued on Thursday in Lokoja.
Fanwo commended the President for reaffirming his administration’s commitment to decentralising policing during a high-level engagement with governors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
He described the proposed State Police structure as a “generational reform” that has become imperative in addressing Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
“President Tinubu’s commitment to the establishment of State Police is indeed a generational reform that will fundamentally transform Nigeria’s security architecture,” he said.
According to him, decentralised law enforcement would enhance community-based security responses, improve intelligence gathering, and strengthen internal security across the federation.
The commissioner characterised the President’s initiative as a bold and strategic step toward achieving long-term national stability.
Fanwo stated that the Kogi State Government supports the ongoing deliberations by the National Assembly on the constitutional and legislative frameworks required to actualise the State Police proposal.
He noted that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration fully aligns with the President’s vision and remains committed to reforms that bring security closer to the grassroots.
“The State Police initiative represents a decisive intervention capable of significantly dismantling insecurity in Nigeria,” he added.
Fanwo also praised the President’s ongoing economic and financial sector reforms, describing the proposed decentralisation of policing as a natural progression of the administration’s broader national renewal agenda.
He assured the President and the leadership of the National Assembly of the state government’s readiness to collaborate with all relevant authorities to ensure the successful establishment of State Police.
The commissioner further emphasised that sustained collaboration between federal and state authorities would not only address immediate security threats but also lay a solid foundation for enduring peace, stability, and development across the country.
