The Kogi State Government has clarified that the temporary closure of schools across the state was a precautionary measure taken to safeguard pupils, students, and teachers, based on credible security intelligence.
The Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mr. Kingsley Femi Fanwo, made the clarification while speaking with journalists in Lokoja on Tuesday, stressing that the decision was guided by responsibility, not fear.
Fanwo explained that the government opted for a proactive approach rather than waiting for avoidable incidents, noting that the safety of lives remains paramount to the Ododo administration.
He disclosed that Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has directed all relevant agencies to immediately put in place necessary modalities to ensure that schools resume academic activities as soon as it is deemed safe, in order to minimise disruption to the academic calendar.
The commissioner commended security agencies for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing the collaboration as a testament to the effectiveness of the state’s security architecture.
Reassuring residents, Fanwo said the government is fully on top of the situation, adding that security operatives are working round the clock to identify, locate, and decisively dismantle criminal hideouts across the state.
“The safety of our children, teachers and educational institutions is non-negotiable. This administration will continue to prioritise the protection of lives while ensuring continuity in governance and education,” he said.
