Disturbed by the rising wave of killings in Bunu Land, Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Dr. Idris Rufus Oluwafemi (IDRUFEM) has called for the urgent adoption of a proactive, intelligence-driven and community-inclusive security framework to restore peace and safety in the area.
In a statement issued on Saturday and a copy available to The Reporters in Lokoja,Dr. Oluwafemi said restoring peace in the area requires a clear shift from reactive measures to a strategy that prioritises early warning systems, timely security response, strong collaboration with local stakeholders and a deliberate effort to address the root causes of violence.
He stressed that only a comprehensive review of the current security approach can effectively protect lives and property, noting that the persistence of attacks shows the need for government to change both its methodology and engagement with affected communities.
IDRUFEM urged authorities at the state and federal levels to act decisively and urgently to reassure residents that their safety remains a top priority, adding that no community should be left to live under constant fear and uncertainty.
The public affairs commentator strongly condemned the recent killings in Bunu Land, describing them as deeply troubling and unacceptable.
He expressed heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved families and the people of the area who have suffered loss, trauma and displacement as a result of the violence.
While acknowledging the efforts of security agencies, Dr. Oluwafemi emphasised that the sanctity of human life must remain paramount and that government has a moral and constitutional responsibility to guarantee the security of all citizens.
He further appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders, youths and residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperative with security agencies, noting that lasting peace can only be achieved through collective responsibility and sincere community engagement.
“Bunu Land deserves peace, security and development. The time to act differently is now,” he said.
