- This is the picture of situation of the sale of petrol in Lokoja, kogi state on Friday, according finding by The Reporters.
Our correspondent, who visited filling stations in the state capital during morning and afternoon times, reports that many of the stations seen had no petrol for sale to motorists.
The few stations that sold the product did that for some hours and closed their gate, citing out of stock as reason behind such development.
Our correspondent recalls that NNPCL and Dangote Refinery reached a deal about a week ago,a development that paved way for NNPCL to buy petrol from Dangote Refinery for sale to the public. This is to increase the supply of the product with the hope when supply is matched the demand for petrol, the price will stabilize or fall.
By this arrangement, consumers had expressed hope that the price of petrol would have come down to about N700.000 per litre but drivers regret that this remains a mirage as the pump price of the product still sells between N950.000, N1,200.00 and N1,400.000 per litre at the filling stations.
The price of petrol at the black market in the state capital sold for as high as N1,500.000 per litre as at Friday evening when this report was published.
The management of NNPCL and Dangote Refinery are urged to take a second look at their deal regarding the lifting and distribution of petrol, to reduce price of petrol in order to ease the current economic hardships, especially on the masses, sequel to by the hike in pump price of petrol in the country.
