A Social Behavioral Specialist,UNICEF,Lagos Field Office,Mrs Aderonke Akinola-Akinwole,has advised youths to position themselves by embracing digital technology so as to stay relevance in the global world.
Aderonke-Akinola, also a speaker, gave the advice during the town-gown interaction on Thursday in Ota,Ogun.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that event was organized by Department of Mass Communication, Covenant University,Ota ,in collaboration with UNICEF.
NAN also reports the topic of of the interaction was “Strategic Communication for Behaviour Changes in the Digital Age”
She noted that there was the need for youths to leverage on digital technology through world of their experiences in order to continue relevance in this technological world.
“We are moving toward a stage where machines would began to replace human beings.
“How prepared are the youth to stay relevant as the world keeps moving at a fast space because Technology and innovation drives the world.”she said.
Aderonke-Akinola implored youths to gain the required experiences and increase their knowledge through the use of multiple digital channels.
According to her,over 60 per cent of the population are youth,adding if the country leave them behind,we would not move forward positively.
She emphasised the need for every young person to see themselves as only as beneficiary of change but also actor of change who are determined to advancing the causes of the community.
Aderonke-Akinola said that the essence of the interaction was created relationship between the industry and the academia world.
She added that UNICEF worked with critical stakeholders like Covenant University as an important one in the development of children.
Aderonke-Akinola said that the institution has set up the meeting with UNICEF to enable them to impact and bringing practicalities from the industry to increase their world of experiences and knowledge.
She said that knowledge acquired by the students would not only be theories but more practical.
In her welcome remark,Dr Stella Aririguzoh,Head of Department of Mass Communication,commended the UNICEF for lecture delivered to the students.
Aririguzoh said that the lecture had taught them that communication could be used to change Behaviour depending on the approach.(NAN)
