,,, Govt.moves to avert outbreak of diseases.

At least, 15 persons were arrested in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa state, north central Nigeria, on Saturday, for various offenses ranging from transacting businesses and driving around during the monthly sanitation in the state.
The General Manager,GM, Nasarawa Environmental Protection Agency, Engineer Yusuf Adeka, disclosed this Saturday while briefing Journalists at the end of this exercise in Lafia, the state Capital.
He said that worried by the out break of diseases threatening the state, arising from violation of exercise in Nasarawa state, the state government was evolving various measures to advert the health challenges confronting the state.
“Towards this end, the state and the local government councils are to set up joint task force to help step up monitoring of sanitation exercises across the 13 Local government Areas of the state, guard against possible outbreak of any disease and ensure improved healthy living condition of the people.
He expressed optimism that that the state would sustain its status of cleanliness, adding government had set aside last Saturday of every month for sanitation.
Adeka promised that the exercise would be strengthened in 2024 to achieve the essence of reintroducing the exercise in 2019 by Gov. Abdullahi Sule.
The arrest of some persons for violating sanitation laws notwithstanding, the GM, however, expressed satisfaction with the level of compliance by members of the public during the December,the last for 2023.
The GM described the level of compliance as impressive and attributed the successes to support from security agencies, traditional rulers, media as well as inspection team from the state Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.
He appealed to Chairmen of various Local Government Areas to key into the exercise to ensure its sustainability.
While commending the residence, especially shop owners, for clearing up drainage around their environment and shops as well as motorists for keeping off the roads during the exercise, he called on members of the public to always keep their environment clean to guard against the outbreak of diseases.
“Residents should cooperate more with the government towards ensuring that the state is clean in their best interest,” he urged.
