The Nigeria Customs Service in Onne, Port Harcourt, River state says it generated N242 billion as revenue in the 2022.
The Comptroller of Customs, Auwal Muhammad, announced while handing over to the newly deployed comptroller, Baba Imam, to Onne.
Muhammad said the figure represented a 28.3 per cent increase over the figure recorded previous year.
He attributed his administration’s success to the robust synergy among officers and relevant stakeholders.
According to him, the customs in Onne port is a revenue generating command with a statutory function covering anti-smuggling activities and serving as an export point for goods.
”Comparatively, when I took over in September 2020, a total revenue of N118 billion was generated by the command.
”In 2021, revenue rose to N188.6 billion, more than N54 billion increase,” he said.
“This constant increase is sequel to the introduction of improved revenue generation structures.
The new structure has enabled the command to achieve higher performance in 2022 when we recorded N242.09 billion.”
The outgoing comptroller also attributed the successes of the command to aggressive operational activities.
”All cargoes are now subjected to 100 per cent examination except where interventions became necessary.
“Our ability to thoroughly examine containers has also helped us prevent the passage of contraband and unwholesome goods.
“The command recorded a total of 51 seizures with a duty paid value of more than N1.76 million last year,” Muhammad said.
