Abductors of Professor Adigun Agbaje, former Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics),University of Ibadan, south west Nigeria,have demanded N50 million ransom for him to regain his freedom.
Agbaje, who is currently on sabbatical at Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago&Iwoye, was on his way to Ibadan when he was kidnapped by gunmen at about 6p.m on Friday at a spot very close to the Sat Guru Maharaji Garden in Ibadan was taken – alongside the students – near Sat Guru Maharaji Garden at the Ibadan end of the Lagos- Ibadan express road.
It was gathered that the gunmen “eliminated some policemen around the scene” before ferrying away Agbaje and two other people suspected to be students.
The abductors later contacted the Agbaje family to demand a N50 million ransom.
Adigun Agbaje, a professor of Political Science, is one of UI’s most respected products ever.
He was, for decades, only First Class first degree holder in the university’s Department of Political Science, until the feat was equalled by Tunde Oseni, currently,an Associate Professor at Lead City University, Ibadan, in the 2000s.
Adigun is loved by majority of his students, being a brilliant right from his student days til present.
He is also a lover of press freedom, having supported the growth of journalism on UI campus in various capacities, beginning with the umbrella Union of Campus Journalists (UCJ).
