The 2-day grid lock that occurred at the Obajaja junction of Okene-Lokoja highway in kogi state ended on Saturday evening with motorists and other road users plying the road relieved.
The Correspondent of The Reporters gathered that the 48-hour grid lock, which saw officials of the unit command exibiting maximum professionalism, was caused by two fully loaded trucks which broke down simultaneously at the centre of the highway.
Our Correspondent further gathered that off loading the two vehicles before towing them from the road became a great task, thereby impeding movement of other vehicles culminating in gridlock.
As a result, motorists plying the road to many states of the federation got stuck on the road for over 48 hours.
The Assistant Corps Commander, (Zariagi Unit of FRSC ),ACC Odigiyon Aderibigbe, who spoke with our Correspondent via telephone on Sunday evening in Lokoja, blamed articulated drivers who noted always drive in disobedience to traffic rules and regulations.
” We were able to solve the problem after 48 hours,but I must say that the recalcitrant behaviour of articulated vehicle drivers caused the gridlock,”he said.
The unit commander urged drivers always to pay special attention to the mechanical condition of their vehicle and ensure that such vehicle is mechanically fit to ply the road.
“My advice to the motorists, especially the articulated vehicles , tankers , trucks and trailers to always take good care of the maintenance of their Vehicle .
” They should pull-off the road whenever any fault is noticed and finally, comply with FRSC personnel directives and control whenever a case of this occurred.
” If they haf listened to us, the traffic gridlock wouldn’t have lasted for two days,” he added.
