Residents of Ilorin have continued to bemoan as a family lost two children of the same family who got drowned in the Asa River in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on new year even.

Our Correspondent gathered that the tragedy struck on Friday evening when the two victims: Damilare (12) and Ksmaldeen(14) from Ile-laru compound, Sabo-line area, Ilorin went in company of their colleagues to swim at Asa River, in preparation for the new year.

Sources said that at the end of the exercise, their remains were handed over to their biological father, simply referred to as Alhaji Jamiu by the officers of the state Fire service drafted to the screen for the rescue.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesman for the State Fire Service, Hassan Adekunle, disclosed that Alhaji Jamiu received the evacuated bodies of his two deceased children on Friday evening.

According to him,the horrible incident happened at about 04:36 p.m on Friday when one Alhaji Eleja suddenly summoned personnel of the Service to the scene of the incident.

He described the death of the two children so unfortunate

Contributing, the Director, Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade Olumuyiwa, advised residents, particularly parents and teachers, to monitor movement of their children, especially during holiday, to avoid such tragedy in future.

Meanwhile, the Senator representing Kwara Central at the National Assembly, Dr Ibrahim Yahaya Oloriegbe, has commiserated with Christians in the state and Catholic family, over the death of Most Reverend Paul Olawoore, the Chairman of the State Christian Association Of Nigerian (CAN) who passed at the 60 on the new year.

Oloriegbe, in a condolence message sent to the Christendom, expressed grief, describing the death of the cleric as a big loss to humanity.

“I received with shock the death of Most Reverend Paul Olawoore whom the last time I saw at a state function, ‘Cracking The Glass Ceiling -able, hale and healthy as he led us in prayer at the gathering.

“That he was pronounced dead some few weeks after is a mystery understood only by the Lord almighty who giveth and taketh life when He is pleased.

“The death of such a humble clergyman is no doubt a big loss to humanity. We should however be consoled that he lived a purposeful life dedicated to the service of God and humanity.

” I pray to God to grant eternal rest to the Late Reverend and abide with his immediate family and all that he left behind.
