Mistaking identity and repriesal attack have claimed two lives in Felele, a suburb in Lokoja the Kogi State capital, over a stolen mobile cellphone by a suspect.

Our Correspondent gathered that the tragedy happened on Monday when a suspected thief snatched a mobile cellphone and sneaked into a shop but escaped being arrested.

Sources told the online publication that some unsuspecting members of the public, who took the shop owner to be the suspect, mobbed him and in the process killed him.

Realising that the real suspect has escaped “justice”, some sympathisers of the deceased were said to have located one of the shop owner’s alleged killers, beat him mercilessly, killed him and set his corpse ablaze, in a repriesal attack.

Some sympathisers and onlookers were also said to have sustained injuries during the crisis and rushed to the hospital.

DSP Williams Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) for the Police Command in the state confirmed the incident.

Aya,who disclosed that two suspects had been arrested over the killings, added that the command had commenced investigation into the matter.
