The Unabated spate of abduction by gunmen has sent palpable fear into the minds of Niger state Commissioners and other top government functionaries as gunmen abducted the Permanent Secretary, state Ministry of Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Garba and his grand daughter.

Our Correspondent reports that the two victims were abducted from Zungeru, the headquarters of Wushishi Local Government Area of the state in the early hours of Friday, barely a month after Commissioner for Information and Strategy and an APC Chieftain were abducted in similar manner.

Sources said that the Permanent Secretary, had travelled to Zungeru for a wedding ceremony and accomplished his mission, was relaxing in his room when the gunmen, numbering over 10 came in, broke the gate of his house and took him and his grand daughter to unknown destination.

The Secretary to the Niger State Government, Alhaji Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, when contacted, said he had just been informed about the incident but yet to get details from the local government authority.

He expressed the preparedness of the state government to ensure that the Permanent Secretary and his grand daughter were rescued unhurt.

As a result of the frightening developmnt, our Correspondent gathered that most government functionaries have gone into hiding while many of them now send representatives to represent them, whenever their attention is needed in their respective villages.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Niger state Police Command, DSP Abiodun Wasiu, could not be reached for confirmation of the incident as at the time of filing this story.
