Zamfara Speaker’s family, others regain freedom,search for father continues

The Police Command in Zamfara State says it has rescued five family members of Zamfara Assembly Speaker, Nasiru Ma’azu Magarya and 11 others abducted by bandits on Aug. 5.

The Police in charge of the command, Ayuba Elkanah, who confirmed this while presenting the rescued victims before reporters in Gusau,said they were rescued on Saturday.

According to Elkanah,the speaker’s abducted family members were among the 16 victims, comprising three- month old baby, Khadija Muazu, and her mother, Hauwau Muazu rescued when the fleeing bandits abandoned them at their various camps.

Our Correspondent recalls that the Speaker’s father and other members of his family affected were abducted on Aug. 5 at Magarya community in Zurmi Local Government Area of the state.

The police boss in the state gave the names of the rescued speaker’s family members as: Dahiru Sarki Magarya, Huwau Mu’azu Magarya, baby Khadija, Usman Magarya and Okasha Abdullahi Magarya.

The police commissioner said the 11 others, also include four women abducted from Magamin Tandu in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.

He said all the victims had undergone various medical checkup, assuring that they would be would be reunited with their families soon.

On the speaker’s father, Alhaji Muazu Magarya, believed to be in abductors’ captivity, Elkanah assured that efforts were on to rescue him.

The Reporters recalls that Zamfara and some other states in northern part of the country have been confronted with high rate of crime and criminality, especially Kidnapping,abduction and banditry,for quite sometimes now.

This urgly development prompted the state governments in the region,such as Zamfara and Kaduna to step up security measures by suspending telecommunication services,among others, to curb the menace.
