North-East Youth Vanguard (NEYV) has advised members of the public to exercise caution in their comments on alleged assault on a security guard at Banex Plaza, Abuja, by the Chairman, Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar.

The Secretary of the group, Malam Abdullahi Mohammed, in a statement on Friday in Abuja, noted that though the incident was regrettable, many commentators also failed to realise the unprofessional conducts and extortionist tendencies of some private security.

Mohammed also emphasised the need for Nigerians to ensure fairness on issues and not be laced with emotions on matters that often times they knew nothing about.

He, therefore, advised people
against “the unwarranted attacks”on Justice Umar, on the issue.

Mohammed also expressed concern at the manner in which some Nigerians were celebrating “frivolity” rather than channelling their energy to proffer solutions to the numerous challenges facing the country.

He said: “Our attention has been drawn to a news item trending in both traditional and social media platforms of an alleged assault on a security guard by the Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, Justice Danladi Umar at Banex Plaza, Abuja.

” Ordinarily, the North East Youth Vanguard (NEYV) could have ignored the entire report and remaine taciturn, but we thought it wise that it is safer to correct some erroneous impressions embedded in the viral video and public comments.

” We are worried at the way the issue is being politicised. For those who do not know Justice Umar, he is a man with proven integrity and sound character.

” He is humility personified and carries out his private and public functions without emotions or primordial sentiments. He has left footprints of professional probity, wherever he found himself. Members of the public are free to do integrity checks on him.”

The Reporters recalls that the alleged action of Justice Umar, as relayed in a viral video, has attracted divergent comments from various segments of the society with some describing it as nepotism and calling for the resignation of Umar, among others reactions.

However, others believe that since Justice Umar has not been tried proved guity of the allegation, by any court of competent jurisdiction, he remains innocent until otherwise and should be seen as such.
