Salem University, Lokoja, Kogi State, has been filled with warmth, gratitude and celebration as the institution’s management and staff honoured their founding Chancellor, Archbishop Sam Amaga, on the occasion of his 73rd birthday.

In a heartfelt message issued in Lokoja,on Sunday ,the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Alewo Johnson-Akubo, described the revered cleric and educationist as a trailblazer and charismatic leader whose life has left an indelible mark on both the spiritual and academic landscape of Nigeria.

According to the Vice Chancellor, the entire university community proudly celebrates the Archbishop’s remarkable journey, acknowledging his tireless commitment to nurturing future leaders and building lives grounded in faith, discipline and excellence.

“As our Chancellor celebrates his 73rd birthday, we salute his amazing and impactful years on earth,” Johnson-Akubo said. “Archbishop Sam Amaga is a true patriot, mentor and father figure worthy of emulation by all who aspire to succeed.”

He added that the institution joins the Archbishop’s family, friends and admirers across the country in wishing him many more years of good health, peace, joy and fruitfulness in his mission of positively transforming society.

Beyond his role as founder of Salem University, the Vice Chancellor highlighted the celebrant’s profound contributions to national development through both ministry and education.

He noted that Archbishop Amaga’s compassion for the less privileged has translated into life-changing opportunities for hundreds of young Nigerians.

Through the Sam Amaga Foundation, he explained, numerous indigent students have received support to pursue higher education and achieve their dreams.

Particularly noteworthy, he said, is the Archbishop’s “Project One Million,” which has awarded scholarships to more than 200 orphans from different parts of the country.

Many beneficiaries of the initiative, the VC revealed, have already graduated from Salem University and other institutions of higher learning and are now making meaningful contributions in various professions, while others continue to benefit from the programme.

“They are now change agents impacting their world in different walks of life,” Johnson-Akubo stated. “Many more are still being recruited and sent to institutions across the nation.”

As tributes continue to pour in, Archbishop Sam Amaga’s 73rd birthday stands not only as a personal milestone but also as a celebration of a life devoted to faith, service, education and the upliftment of humanity, a legacy that continues to inspire generations.
