A don, Prof. Bamidele Adebisi, has called on universities to deepen collaboration with industries to translate academic research into practical solutions to societal challenges.

Adebisi, of the Department of Engineering, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Manchester University, United Kingdom, made the call while delivering the Open Lecture of Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State.

The lecture, titled “Happen To Your World! Academic Entrepreneurship: Translating Research Excellence into Real World Outcomes,” focused on bridging the gap between academic research and real-world impact.

According to him, effective collaboration between academia and industry is critical to turning research outputs into prosperity and sustainable development.

He identified purpose, people, place and partnership as key pillars for sustaining societal value through innovation, adoption and continuous learning.

“For research excellence to translate into real-world outcomes, it must be of high quality and deliver measurable value to society,” Adebisi said.

The don also urged youths to embrace discipline, innovation and forward thinking in order to remain globally competitive.

“You must anticipate problems through your skills and provide solutions,” he said, adding that discipline and focus were essential for building a structured and successful future.

He further advised youths to manage their time efficiently, prioritise resources such as time and finances, and acquire relevant skills to succeed professionally and in life.

Adebisi stressed that purpose should go beyond written plans, urging young people to take responsibility for their actions and decisions rather than shifting blame to others.
