A former Niger Delta freedom fighter, Endurance Amagbein, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to urgently intervene in the lingering political crisis between Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, to restore peace and unity in the state.
Amagbein, who styles himself as “General” and is popularly known as Adaka Boro the Second, made the call in a statement issued to journalists on Friday in Abuja.
He warned that if the crisis is not addressed promptly, it could escalate and adversely affect innocent citizens.
According to him, given the depth of the impasse, only President Tinubu has the moral authority and political weight to broker an amicable resolution between the two leaders.
He assured that the president’s intervention would pave the way for reconciliation, enabling both leaders to embrace peace and work together for the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amagbein also urged Governor Fubara and Wike, who is now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), to set aside their differences and adopt a “father-and-son” approach to resolving the crisis that, he said, is tearing both them and Rivers State apart.
He noted that the situation had become urgent, adding that saboteurs were exploiting the political tension to enrich themselves through diversionary politics, allegedly at the expense of the state’s treasury.
While the nation’s attention remains focused on the political turmoil in Rivers State, Amagbein alleged that some individuals who do not have the state’s interest at heart are benefiting financially from the crisis through a divide-and-rule strategy.
He stressed that decisive intervention by the president was the only way to end the crisis permanently and allow the state to refocus on critical sectors of development.
“Wike and Fubara should join forces to promote President Tinubu’s 2027 agenda and not allow crisis-mongers to destabilise Rivers State,” he said.
He further alleged that some of the individuals fueling the crisis are not indigenes of Rivers State but have infiltrated the political system, positioning agents to worsen the situation.
Amagbein also called on key stakeholders to rise above personal interests and preach peace to all parties involved in the conflict.
The ex-agitator also appealed to prominent Niger Delta leaders, King Asari Dokubo and King Ateke Tom, to remain vigilant and prevent external forces from destabilising their domains.
In addition, the ex-agitator cautioned Ijaw youths against taking sides in the dispute, stressing that the differences between Wike and Fubara are resolvable.
He said instead, they should place the overall interest of Rivers State above individual loyalties.
Amagbein observed that for some individuals, crisis remains the only avenue for benefiting from government, adding that the prolonged nature of the dispute is largely due to the influence of people who do not mean well for either of the two leaders.
He also called on the Rivers State House of Assembly to give peace a chance in the interest of the citizens and the development of the state.
