The First Lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, has extended heartfelt sympathy and support to the families and victims affected by the tragic accident involving Persons with Disabilities returning to Okene from the 2025 World Disability Day event in Lokoja.
Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Deaconess Margaret Eleojo Salifu, the First Lady visited the injured receiving treatment at the Specialist Hospital and Shifa Hospital in Lokoja on Thursday.
Hajia Sefinat expressed deep sorrow over the incident, offered prayers for the quick recovery of the injured, and assured them of the State Government’s full support during their healing process.
She also mourned the six individuals who lost their lives in the crash, conveying profound condolences to their families, the disability community, and the entire state.
She described the incident as a painful loss, especially as the victims were returning from a noble event dedicated to promoting inclusion and awareness.
In a gesture of compassion, Hajia Sefinat provided financial assistance to the victims to help ease the burden of their treatment and recovery. She commended the medical personnel for their swift response and professional care.
The First Lady used the occasion to caution truck drivers and other road users against unsafe practices, particularly highway blockages that endanger lives. She stressed the importance of adhering to safety regulations, especially during the busy ember months when road traffic typically increases.
Reaffirming her commitment to humanitarian service, she promised that her office would continue to support vulnerable groups, including persons with disabilities, across the state.
Hajia Sefinat prayed for the repose of the souls of the departed and for God’s protection over the people of Kogi State, urging all motorists to remain vigilant, patient, and safety-conscious at all times.
