Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court, Abuja,FCT, has warned all parties in the suit seeking to stop the planned national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) not to take any action that could undermine the court’s decision.
The judge gave the warning on Thursday after PDP’s lawyer, Mr. Chris Uche (SAN), complained that the order directing all sides to maintain the status quo was affecting the party’s activities and urged a quick hearing of the case.
Justice Omotosho reaffirmed that the status quo order remains in force and must be obeyed, warning that any party that takes steps capable of rendering the court’s decision useless would face strict consequences.
He also cautioned against any attempt to delay the case and assured that judgment would be delivered as quickly as possible.
At the resumed hearing, both the PDP National Legal Adviser, Mr. Kamaldeen Ajibade (SAN), and Mr. Uche insisted they were the rightful legal representatives of the party. The judge ordered them to file their processes for the court to decide and fixed October 20 for the hearing of the main suit.
The case was filed by Hon. Austin Nwachukwu (Imo PDP Chairman), Hon. Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia PDP Chairman), and Turnah Alabh George (PDP Secretary, South-South). They seek to stop the PDP’s planned November 15–16 National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, where new national officers are expected to be elected.
