An Area Court sitting at Centre-
Igboro, Ilorin, Kwara State Capital, has dissolved the marriage between Aminat Mustapha and Bolaji Gold over alleged domestic violence and loss of affection.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, the Presiding Judge, Mr. Toyin Aluko, noted that since the respondent, Bolaji Gold, did not oppose the dissolution, there was no reason to delay the court’s decision.

Aluko formally dissolved the Islamic marriage and directed the petitioner, Aminat Mustapha, to observe a one-month Iddah (waiting period) before contracting another marriage.

The judge adjourned the case until November 4 to rule on the custody of the four children of the marriage.

Earlier, Aminat told the court that she was no longer interested in continuing the marriage, citing domestic violence and loss of affection. She sought custody of the children and requested N50,000 monthly for their upkeep, in addition to asking that their father pay their school fees.

While agreeing to the divorce, Bolaji opposed his estranged wife’s request for custody of the children, aged 10, 9, 6, and 2,citing undisclosed reasons.
