The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun I Command, has intercepted contraband items with a Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦1,401,531,923.95 within just 48 days across different parts of the state.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, announced this on Thursday during a press briefing at the Command’s headquarters in Idiroko, Ogun State.
Otunla attributed the achievement to intelligence-driven operations, resilience, and the unwavering commitment of officers of the Command.
According to him, the seizures included 4,424 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 105 bags of cannabis sativa, 105 used tyres, 21 bales and three sacks of second-hand clothing, three vehicles (including a Rolls-Royce), and 6,400 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
“These seizures, with a DPV of over ₦1.4bn, represent a significant economic loss to smugglers but a huge gain to our national economy and security,” he said.
Otunla also disclosed that the Command generated ₦45,054,191 in July 2025, representing a 27.47 per cent increase compared to the ₦35,327,852 recorded in the same month of 2024.
He noted that the growth reflects the Command’s enhanced compliance drive, improved border monitoring, and stronger stakeholder engagement.
On the illicit drug seizures, Otunla said they would be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Idiroko Special Command, for further investigation and action.
“The synergy with other security agencies is not only in compliance with government directives but also reinforces our collective resolve to safeguard public health, ensure national security, and protect our youths from the devastating effects of hard drugs,” he added.
