The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) have the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his administrationās commitment to workers’ welfare and improved conditions of service.
The labour leaders, who paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House in Lokoja, expressed appreciation for what they described as the fulfilment of promises made to workers across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the organised labour, NLC leader Amari Gabriel,praised Governor Ododo for the prompt implementation of the national minimum wage, regular and timely payment of salaries, disbursement of leave bonuses, and the extension of the stateās health insurance scheme to cover pensioners.
The labour leaders also lauded the Governorās support for infrastructural development at the Labour House, citing the provision of a functional borehole, a dedicated 33kva electricity line, and a new transformer to enhance the working environment for union activities.
Similarly, NULGE executives, led by Mohammed Sanusi,expressed satisfaction with the Governorās attention to the welfare of local government workers.
They noted the full implementation of the minimum wage and the consistent payment of 100% salaries at the grassroots levelāan achievement they described as unprecedented in the state.
In his response, Governor Ododo thanked the labour leaders for their visit and encouragement, emphasizing that the payment of salaries and prioritization of workersā welfare are not acts of generosity but duties of responsible governance.
āYour salary is your right, not a privilege. We are here to serve.
“My administration will continue to uphold the dignity of labour and ensure that workers receive what is due to them,ā the Governor stated.
He reaffirmed his administrationās commitment to building a public service where civil servants can thrive, and pledged continued collaboration with organised labour in driving the stateās development agenda.
The labour leaders presented symbolic gifts to the Governor and offered prayers for wisdom, strength, and continued success in the discharge of his responsibilities.
