The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sen. Sunday Karimi, has called for a constitutional amendment to allow for the establishment of state police across Nigeria.

Karimi made the call on Saturday during a media parley with journalists in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital.

He said the growing insecurity across the country has made the creation of state police not only necessary but urgent, stressing that decentralizing the policing system would enhance the nation’s capacity to combat crime more effectively.

“The level of insecurity in Nigeria demands a more localized approach to policing. Establishing state police will help address security challenges more efficiently,” the senator stated.

According to him, the Senate will soon organize a summit on security to garner ideas from experts and critical stakeholders on how to tackle insecurity headlong.

The Senator, who expressed worry over  insecurity in the West Senatorial district of the state, in recent time said he has committed a lot of effort to arrest the situation .

The Senator revealed that he single-handedly initiated and established a state-of-the-art Forward Operating Base (FOB) for the Nigerian Army, the first of its kind in North Central Nigeria. Located in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, at the strategic intersection of Kogi, Kwara, and Ekiti state boundaries, the facility is a bold move to bolster security in the region.

A standout feature of the base is a robustly built armoury structure, which doubles as a high-security watchtower equipped with surveillance technology and intelligence-gathering capabilities.

In a further show of commitment to regional safety, the Senator also provided two brand-new Hilux patrol vehicles and a powerful 500 KVA transformer to support the operational efficiency of the base among his other achievements in two years of his legislative efforts to his constituency in two years.
