The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Jigawa State has arrested three men allegedly behind a multi-billion naira drug syndicate in a major crackdown on drug trafficking in the state.
Our correspondent reports that the suspects were caught with a staggering N2.6 billion worth of illicit pharmaceutical drugs, including 118.6 tons of Tramadol tablets and 195.3 kilograms of Pregabalin capsules.
According to NDLEA officials, the drugs were being smuggled in a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater Hummer bus en route to Konar Dole, a notorious distribution hub for illicit substances.
The haul was intended for black market outlets across Jigawa, Yobe, Bauchi States, and into the Niger Republic.
The Jigawa State NDLEA Commander, Musa Maina, described the operation as one of the largest drug seizures in the agency’s history.
“This operation followed a three-day sting across Kano and Jigawa. It was a coordinated effort to dismantle a well-organized trafficking network,” he said at a press briefing in Dutse.
The suspects,identified as Jamilu Muhammad, Abba Ibrahim, and Shuaibu Umar, are currently in custody as investigations continue.
Authorities believe the trio are part of a broader criminal syndicate, and efforts are underway to trace the kingpins financing the operation.
Maina affirmed that the NDLEA remains committed to rooting out drug crime across the region and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
