The Kogi State Coordinator of the National Examination Council (NECO), Mr. Thaddeus Ajabu, has emphasized the importance of sensitizing students regarding the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) policy, which no longer accepts graduates with names containing abbreviations.
Ajabu made this remark during a courtesy visit to Kogi State Polytechnic’s Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, in Lokoja according to a statement signed by Uredo Omale, Director of Public Relations and Protocol of the polytechnic and made a available to The Reporters in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Ajabu stated that he was at the Polytechnic as part of his ongoing visits to other key stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of avoiding the abbreviation of candidates’ names during registration for the Senior School Certificate Examination.
He urged the Polytechnic and other relevant institutions to help find solutions to this issue and emphasized the importance of sponsoring underprivileged students to sit for the examination.
In his response, Professor Usman thanked Ajabu and his team for the visit and recommended that NECO design a registration template that would prevent candidates from registering with abbreviated names.
He reiterated the Polytechnic’s policy of only accepting abbreviated names only when accompanied by an affidavit to fully spell out the name.
Professor Usman proposed a collaborative effort between the Polytechnic and NECO to conduct promotion examinations for staff as a means of ensuring quality assurance.
Meanwhile, the new Provost of Kogi State College of Education, Ankpa, Dr. Paul Femi Fashagba also visited the Rector, in his office where he expressed admiration for Usman’s leadership and requested his support in his new role as Provost.
Dr. Fashagba vowed to emulate Professor Usman’s success and sought his mentorship to thrive in his new position.
The Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Sunday Faleke, who was on the entourage of the new provost,commended the Rector’s leadership, which has significantly transformed the institution.
