The Kwara State Police Command has successfully rescued 13 kidnap victims in a daring operation, underscoring its unwavering commitment to combating crime and protecting residents.

The victims, abducted on December 21, 2024, while traveling to a wedding in Kogi State, were freed through a collaborative effort between the police and the Oke-Ero Local Government Security Initiative.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, revealed in Ilorin that the rescue mission was launched following a distress call and executed with the aid of credible intelligence.

“Acting on reliable information and with support from local informants, security operatives stormed the kidnappers’ hideout in the Idofin-Igbana area,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.

The kidnappers, dressed in military uniforms, engaged the rescue team in a gun battle but were overpowered. The six armed men fled with injuries, abandoning their captives.

Among the rescued were three women and ten men, including residents of Odo-Owa in Oke-Ero Local Government Area, Ilorin, Ogbomoso, and trailer drivers en route to Kogi State. Two victims sustained minor injuries and were treated before being reunited with their families.

“All 13 victims were rescued and have safely rejoined their families,” the police spokesperson added.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Victor Olaiya, commended the operatives for their bravery and thanked the local community for their support. He assured residents of the Command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property while urging the public to report suspicious activities through the Command’s emergency hotlines: 07032069501 or 08125275046.

This successful operation reinforces the Police Command’s determination in kwara state to eliminate criminal elements and ensure the safety of all citizens.
