Many residents of Lokoja and its surrounding areas in Kogi State, North Central Nigeria, who attended the market day in Lokoja on Saturday, went home relieved as bean prices dropped significantly.

A market survey conducted by our correspondent at the International Market in Lokoja on Saturday revealed that the price of beans, previously sold for N6,000 per mudu a few months ago, had dropped to as low as N3,500 or even N2,500 as the case may be,for the same quantity.

Some buyers who spoke with our correspondent at the International Market,Lokoja ,expressed gratitude, thanking God for the price reduction and hoping that the good news would extend to other food items to alleviate the current challenges of high living costs.

Some bean sellers who also spoke with our correspondent attributed the positive development to the arrival of the new bean harvest, adding that without this, prices of beans would not have dropped due to the high cost of transportation caused by the rising fuel prices in the country.

However, the buyers’ happiness was short-lived, as the prices of other food items such as rice, yam, and soup ingredients continued to soar, forcing them to spend large sums of money on only a small quantity of essential goods.

They urged the federal government to once more do a critical review of its economic policies and programs with the aim of making adjustments to alleviate the hardships caused by the high cost of living.
