Letter of Concern to the Executive Governor of Kogi State,His Excellency, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.

By Abdullahi Ubeida.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for your prompt implementation of the new minimum wage for workers in Kogi State. This decision has been an economically transformative one, positively impacting the lives of many.
However, as with all progress, there remain areas of concern that require attention. With humility, I write to bring to your notice a pressing issue: the growing transportation challenges in Lokoja and other major towns within the state. As we all know, transportation serves as the backbone of every sector of the economy. Given the current economic realities, particularly the rising cost of fuel, there is an urgent need for the establishment of a modern public intercity bus service across institutional towns, including Lokoja, and across the three senatorial districts of the state.
I propose the implementation of an intracity bus service initiative, which can be structured as a public-private partnership (PPP). Under this model, the state government would not necessarily bear the full financial burden of purchasing buses, managing the system, or constructing bus stops. Instead, private investors could contribute significantly to the venture, while the government provides an enabling environment for its smooth operation.
This initiative will yield several positive outcomes, including:
1. Alleviation of Transportation Challenges: The introduction of reliable public bus services will ease the transportation burden faced by residents of the state.
2. Employment Creation: The project will provide direct employment opportunities for citizens across different skill levels.
3. Increased Efficiency: Reliable bus services will reduce lateness among workers and students, leading to greater productivity across sectors.
4. Revenue Generation: This initiative will increase internally generated revenue for the state, contributing to its economic growth.
5. Establishment of a Transport Model: It will set a modern transportation framework that other states may emulate, positioning Kogi State as a leader in public transport innovation.
I firmly believe that with your visionary leadership, this proposal could become a reality, benefiting the people of Kogi State for years to come. Thank you for your time and continued dedication to the welfare of the people.

Hon. Abdullahi Ubeida,a concerned kogite and a businessman, resides in Lokoja, Kogi State.
