,,,,,,17,000 prospective students seeking institution’s admission, 9,000 pencilled for admission-VC

The Federal University, Lokoja (FUL), kogi state, has graduated 41 students with first-class honors.
The Vice Chancellor of the university,Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, revealed this on Monday at the Felele campus of the institution in Lokoja signaling the commencement of the university’s 8th convocation ceremony
Prof. Akinwumi provided a breakdown of the student performance, with 461 students earning Second Class Upper, 974 in Second Class Lower, 384 in Third Class, and 3 with Pass.
He said that 1,863 students would receive first degrees, while 117 would earn Diplomas and 216 would be awarded Postgraduate degrees, bringing the total number of graduates to 2,196.
The VC said:”In this year’s convocation ceremony, a total of 1,863 students will be conferred with first degrees, 117 students with Diploma, and 216 with Postgraduate comprising Ph.D, Master’s and PGD,bringing it to 2,196 Students that will be graduating from our institution.
” This is a significant moment, not just for the university but for the graduands and their families, as it marks the culmination of years of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.”
The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted significant achievements, including the National University Commission’s (NUC) approval of several new academic programmes, including LL.B. Law, Doctor of Pharmacy (D. Pharm), and Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), adding that admissions is underway for the 2024/2025 academic session.
He added that the National University Commission,NUC,has approved the full-time delivery of eight academic programme, which include Microbiology, Public Administration, Mass Communication, and Statistics, to be offered in affiliation with Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, Edo State.
The VC also announced the FUL’s collaboration with the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies,NILDS, to enhance the university’s postgraduate offerings.
Prof. Akinwumi further shared infrastructure developments, including the construction of a Senate Building, a Faculty of Engineering, and a state-of-the-art lecture theatre.
According to him,the university has also established Kogi State’s first-ever Zoo and Conservatory, promoting both research and community engagement.
He noted that despite economic challenges, FUL continued to prioritize growth, with efforts to ensure the accreditation of 42 programmes, develop renewable energy solutions on campus, and foster gender equality through the newly established Institute of Gender Studies.
The VC said that that the university is gearing up for the 2024/2025 session, with over 17,000 applicants vying for admission.
“We plan to admit 9,000 students into these programmes, and I am thrilled to announce that the new
academic session is scheduled to commence on November 10, 2024, “he said.
He expressed delight over the outcome of the recent NUC accreditation, saying that the exercise has been overwhelmingly positive.
He further revealed that of the 42 programmes submitted for accreditation, 34 have received full accreditation, while eight (8) were granted interim accreditation.
“This remarkable achievement underscores our university’s unwavering commitment to maintaining high academic standards and delivering quality education to our students”, according to the VC.
The erudite Professor of History disclosed that a landmark collaboration between FUL and the Rural Electrification Agency (RISA) under the Energizing Education Programme (EP).
According to him,through the Initiative, the campus would benefit from reliable power generated from renewable energy solutions, including the installation of campus wide street lighting and the establishment of renewable energy training centers.
“This partnership marks a significant step towards ensuring a sustainable energy future for our university, while also enhancing our capacity for research and specialized training in renewable energy,” VC told the gathering.
On his advice to the graduands the VC congratulated them, pointing out that their achievements remain a source of immense pride for the University.
“As they prepare to embark on the next phase of their journey, we encourage them to carry with them the values they have learned here at FUL—respect, integrity, innovation, dedication and diligence” he urged.
