The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has provided an update, stating that Monday’s national grid collapse was a partial disruption, not a total failure.
The outage, which began at approximately 6:48 p.m. on Monday, left many areas across Nigeria without power. The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, through its spokesperson Emeka Ezeh, confirmed the incident, as did the Abuja and Eko Electricity Distribution Companies.
Following the collapse, TCN reported zero load allocation to all eleven distribution companies but assured that efforts to restore the system were well underway.
According to TCN spokesperson Ndidi Mbah, the national grid retained some function as the Akwa Ibom generating station remained operational in “island” mode, supplying power to certain areas through the Eket, Ekim, Uyo, and Itu substations.
Mbah stated, “It was a partial system disturbance. The IBOM Generating Station was separated to continue supplying some areas, preventing a complete system collapse. Recovery efforts are progressing significantly.”
Reports indicate that, as of now, power has not yet been fully restored in some regions across the country.
