Celebrating the Legacy: GSS Afon Class of ’84’s Impact and Reunion.

Following the successful and inspirational maiden edition of the gathering of the old students association Gss Afon in 2021 at kwara Hotel,Ilorin, to mark the the 45th anniversary of their Alma mata, the 1984 alumni of the school gathered in Ilorin on July 27,2024 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their graduation from the school in a glamorous style.


Honoured members for their contribution towards the progress of the set and the school at large.
The occasion marked the celebration achievements, reminisce about old times, and showcasing of the contributions of the set to their alma mater.

The event which took place at Timak Event Centre, Ita-Alamu, Ajase-Ipo Road, Ilorin, Kwara State underscored their commitment to ensuring the school’s continued success and honor.

The event was a vibrant gathering featuring prominent alumni, including High Court justices, professors, successful businesspeople, accountants, and civil servants, all of whom have excelled in their respective fields.

The reunion was marked by lively interactions, nostalgic exchanges, and a spirited performance by Fuji music star Alhaji Wasiu Ayoade (Kwam1). Attendees enjoyed a day of socializing, dancing, and dining, making it an unforgettable occasion.

In his address, the President of the 1984 alumni, Mr. Olusola Dada, an accountant,reflected on their journey. He noted that the reunion movement began in 2019 and has grown significantly. “We’ve stepped into a large role of leadership, and with God’s help, we’ve achieved more than we expected,” Dada remarked.

He praised the Class of ’84 for initiating several significant improvements at the school, including the construction of a modern gatehouse, the installation of a 33 KVA transformer, and the renovation of the administrative building. “Our investment in the school’s facelift has been substantial, and these achievements would not have been possible without your unwavering support,” he added.

Dada emphasized that GSS Afon has produced many distinguished professionals and successful individuals. He praised the rigorous training and discipline that shaped their careers, from the technical skills acquired in Ogbondoroko classes to the life lessons learned during their time at the school.

“This is our period of giving back. Our goal is to restore the school’s prominence to what it was when we graduated in 1984. With continued support and divine assistance, we can further contribute to the school’s development,”Dada said.

He recognized the efforts of those who made the event and their contributions possible, urging everyone to applaud their dedication and achievements.

The president of the set paid glowing tribute to their teachers and the first set for their impact in their educational sourjon in the school.

He said:”Our appreciation also goes to the teachers in government secondary School Afon who became our second parents when we got to the school in 1979, and the first set of the school who also automatically became our guardians and third parents.

“The First set of Government Secondary School Afon did a lot of job to receive us in 1979. The forest was cleared by them, most of the buildings were built by them and they thought us the way of life.
“Some of them were our school fathers and mothers. We grew up in their hands through serious training that guarded our life for today.
“Sir and Ma, we remember and consider your importance in our life growth. Thank you so much!

It is hoped that other sets after 84 set will see this noble contribution as a leverage to make their input in the overall development of the school they are absolutely proud of and vowed not to make its name to rot as they expressed in their school anthem, more than 40 years ago.

History has it that Gss Afon was established on September 3,1976 by the regime of Maj,-Gene.Agbazika Innih, first in Asa Local Government Area of kwara state.
Ahmed belongs to the first set of Gss Afon.
Ahmed, a media consultant, belongs to the first set of Gss Afon students who graduated in 1981.
Chief Solomon Aboyeji was the pioneer principal of the school.
