Members of ABU Alumni Association, Kogi State branch, have passed a vote of confidence on the ability of the branch executive council ,BEC,to lead the branch to the promise land.

They expressed their feeling during the fortnight meeting of the association in Lokoja on Thursday.

Dr. Denja Abdul and Alhaji Adama Yahaya, two of the pioneer members of the branch when it was formed, about 30 years ago, paid glowing tribute to the Engr. Abdulsalam Mohammed Sagir for being focused and settle down to chart worthy programmes for members’satisfaction.

They and other members noted that the channel of communication created by the new leadership and the led marked a clear departure from the lull in activities of the past executive branch of the association in the state.
According to them, the pace of action so far by the current branch executive council if continued and enhanced, will be an asset to the overall progress of the branch in no distance future in the execution of its programmes.

In his comments,the Secretary General ,World Wide of the association,Dr.Danjuma Mahmud,expressed delight that Kogi branch of the association is one of the branches that had made their presence visible and felt in all the activities of national body of the association in recent time.

Our correspondent recalls that the branch presented Dr.Danjuma Mahmud as the Secretary General, World Wide of the association at the last Annual General Assembly and Home coming of the association in Zaria in 2023 and he was elected on unopposed.

Recently, the Publicity Secretary and Social Welfare Officer of the branch, Alhaji Dawud Ahmed,was made a member of the forum of Public Relations Officers of the national body of the association with headquarters in Zaria.
Members, however, stressed the need for the branch executive council members not to betray the confidence they reposed on them and for them to see time as of essence in actualizing the activities of the branch.

The Chairman of the branch,Engr.Abdulsalam Mohammed Sagir, thanked members for reposing confidence in the BEC and promised that he and his executive members would not take that for granted.

He disclosed that BEC had mapped out various programmes aimed at returnimg the branch to its old glorious good days that marked it out as the envy of other associations in Kogi state.
Earlier in a statement signed by the chairman of the branch,entitled,”The journey so far,”and read by Secretary of the branch,Mal.Yahaya Maihankuri , BEC expressed its determination to reposition the branch.
One of such steps,Sagir disclosed, is the formation of The Council of Elders.

“The new Executive Committee members, for the first time ever, initiated the formation of The Council of Elders to serve as an advisory body to the Association.
“The members of The Council of Elders are as follows:Alhaji(Dr) Denja Abdul,Dr.Danjuma Mahmud,Alhaji Adama Yahaya, Chief Moses Tutu, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani,Mr James Oyewole,Mrs.LamySaretu Lawal,Alhaji Suleiman Sadiq, Hajia Adoza Haruna and Hon.Bako Shigaba.
“Following the appointment of one of us,an ABU Alumnus,His Royal Majesty,Dr.Saidu Akawu as the 27th Ohimege-Igu, the new leadership paid him congratulatory visit along with some members of the association,”he said.

Sagir added that the association presented a rolling banner carrying the royal father’s picture in a traditional regalia, appellation, congratulatory message and prayer and thanked him for his leadership role as one time chairman of the state branch of the association.
“Not resting on its oars, the new leadership also paid a congratulatory visit to the new Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Ibrahim Gambo along with some members,”he added.
Sagir said his council was very much conscious of the fact that”there is still much work to do”.

“With God’s help and your tremendous cooperation,we would not sit on our laurels and we would not complacent with the future of our great association,” he assured members.

Our correspondent reports that while members have revived their monthly meeting on a regular basis,members the council of elders of the association will soon be inaugurated for them to hit ground running, among other planned activities of the branch for implementation.
