It was an emotion-ladden moment for commercial drivers who motor park is located on Kabba Okene road, Lokoja, Kogi State, north central Nigeria, as they were seen in pensive mood,discussing the possibility of raising N500,000, through levy, as ransom for kidnappers who abducted one of them recently.
Our correspondent,who visited the park on Sunday, to monitor transport fare, gathered that suspected kidnappers abducted some passengers of a commercial car that left the the park with some passengers on Kabba road and took them and the driver to their den.
The suspects were said to have communicated with the drivers,demanding for N500,000 before they could free the kidnapped driver.
However, transport fare from Lokoja to Okene remained as N2,500 per trip on the even of the new year.
All the same some drivers who spoke with our correspondent at the park attributed the development to the ongoing repair of Lokoja-Okene high way.
The drivers commended Kogi State and federal governments for the initiative which they noted, made their trip fairly simple and seamless,less wear tear and repair of their vehicles.
Meanwhile, the Police Command and other security agencies in the state have rescued 24 kidnapped passengers that plied the Itobe-Ajaokuta axis onward eastern part of Nigeria for yuletide on Saturday.
The Commissioner of Police,CP Bernard Onuoha, disclosed this on Sunday in Lokoja,in a statement signed by SP. William Ovie Aya,the Command’s spokesman and made a copy available to The Reporters.
The CP said the command was making conscious efforts to arrest the kidnappers for them to face Justice.
