The release of the eight students of the Federal University,Lafia, Nasarawa state, north central Nigeria few days ago,was not on a platter of ease.
Their respective family contributed N3.5 million as ransom for the kidnappers to set them free from captivity.
A member of one of such families,who would not want his identity veiled, disclosed this to our correspondent in an interview in Lafia on Monday.
According to the him, the kidnappers have earlier demanded N5 million on each of their victims in the message they sent to the families as a condition for them to see their children back unhurt or they have them killed,if the ransome is not paid within a given time.
“We went round to borrow the money from friends and associates with serious begging for the kidnappers to accept what we could offer to have our children back alive.
“Afternoon much pleading, they accepted the money and released our children to us”,he further revealed.
The family member described kidnapping in the state as frightening and worrisome and urged the state government as well as security agencies to intensify efforts in arresting the ugly trend.
