Thousands of air travellers who trooped to theĀ Murtala Mohammed Domestic AirportĀ inĀ Lagos on Tuesday went home disappointed and some left astonished as they could not travel because aviation workers embarked on strike, leading to suspension of flights.
Our Correspondent reports that the workers embarked on the strike Tuesday morning over the sack of some of their members by Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL).
The aviation workers under the aegis of Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), The Reporters gathered, were seen at strategic entrances of the airport leading to the terminal building as early as 6:00 a.m.
According to sources, BASL was alleged to have sacked 37 the workers, including their union executives,a development ATSSSAN described as witch-hunting and willful intimidation.
The workers were said to have expressed disappointment that BASL management, rather than implementing the conditions of service for them,as agreed in 2021,resorted to sacking theirmembers.
Consequently,all flights into and from the airport remained suspended as at the time of this report at about 10.55 a.m on Tuesday.
Efforts to get the side of the company on the issue proved abortive.
