The national headquarters of the Labour Party (LP) has waded into the leadership crisis rocking the leadership of the party in Niger state, appealing for calm and the understanding of Peter Obi/Datti Ahmed support groups in the state.

The Reporters recalls that the state LP chairman, Comrade Musa Abdullahi, has been under attack by some members of the state executive on one hand and members of the Obi/Datti support groups on the other hand over alleged poor management of the party affairs in the state.

While some alleged that Comrade Musa is acting as a stooge for some un-named opposition political interests, others accused him of assembling his friends to occupy the various positions in the party, thereby stagnating its progress in the build up to the 2023 general elections.

During the maiden meeting of the various Support Groups and Labour Party at the state secretariat, behind the CBN, Minna, those in attendant including party members demanded that the Comrade Musa-led executive ‘do the right thing’ by going forward for the party.

Our Correspondent reports that the meeting witnessed intermittent rowdy session but came to a peaceful end.

Members however made observations about what they described as suspicious and clandestine mien of Comrade Musa and his team due to the intervention of the LP national Legal Adviser, Akingbade Oyelekan who was present.

They expressed concern that the lukewarm attitude of the party leadership in the state,if not urgently checked, would have dire negative consequences on the party and its candidates in next year electíon.

Addressing the gathering, the LP national Legal Adviser, Mr. Akingbade appealed for calm assuring members that ‘something is being done’ to harmonise observations at the meeting, even as he also solicited the understanding of the Obi/Datti Support Groups towards actualizing set goals.

Earlier, the LP Chairman in Niger state, Comrade Musa Abdullahi expressed dissatisfaction with the attitude of some members of the party and as well Support Groups for faulting his leadership style.

The chairman, who avoided observations from participants to clear himself of allegation of serving as ‘stooge’ to some invisible opposition forces in Niger state and unwillingness to fill existing vacancies, pledged his loyalty and support to LP and the Obi/Datti 2023 mandate.
