Public primary school teachers in Kogi state now have cause to smile as the state government ordered that they should start to enjoy 100% salary payment.
The Commissioner of Educatuon, Science and Technology, Mr Wemi Jones, disclosed the cheering news in Lokoja while addressing journalists after the Executive Council meeting.
According to him,the teachers concerned would also be considered to benefit from the state government’s housing scheme and other remunerations.
The Commissioner,who said that the State Executive Council regretted the pains suffered by primary school teachers for more than a decade over percentage payment, expressed the commitment of the state government to end the’ nasty development”.
He also revealed that the council had approved the recruitment of teachers into the primary and secondary school system, adding that the exercise would commence within the next few weeks.
The recruitment,he noted,became necessary due to gross inadequate of qualified teachers and ensure that the right hands to boost effective teaching and learning at both primary and secondary school levels were brought into the educatuon system in the state.
Jones also disclosed that the state government agreed to consider recruiting retired teachers who were still passionate about impacting knowledge, on a special package of engagement.
Other considerations according to him, were that those who exited the system due to one reason or the other and those currently working as PTA teachers but with the required qualifications would be considered.
He told the teachers that the state government would continue to accord “top priority” to their welfare to boost productivity.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mohammed Onogwu, disclosed that the State Executive Council had approved the release of N713, 716, 997 for the execution of the expansion and reticulation of Okene Water works project.
Onogwu,who disclosed when he briefed Journalists,noted that the approval was meant to end acute scarcity of portable water in the area.
