Cultism: Police arrest 15 suspects, 1 person dies in Lokoja

The Police Command in kogi state says it has arrested 15 suspects in connection with Cultist activities that rocked kabawa section of Lokoja, the state capital on Monday.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Command,SP William Aya, disclosed this to the Correspondent of The Reporters in a telephone interview in Lokoja on Tuesday.

” Immediately the information got to the command on the issue, the Commissioner of Police visited the scene of the incident to ensure the restoration of peace.

“We have arrested 15 suspects in connection with the matter.

“Though we have not received the information officially, I was made to understand that one person lost his life and some houses were destroyed during the incident. peace has returned to kabawa,”Aya told the online publication.

The police image maker further told our correspondent that the Commissioner of Police had directed his deputy, in charge of investigation, to commence investigation into the matter.

Reliable sources told The Reporters Correspondent the crisis erupted on Monday night, following rivalry between some teenagers with the age bracket of 13 and 15 years old.

The sources added that in the free for all fight that followed, some lives were lost and houses burnt in Kabawa while many residents took to heels for safety.

According to them, two persons lost their lives at Saduana street and one from Hausa street, adding that quarrel over girl friend was one of the factors responsible for such crisis.

Some members of the public who spoke with our Correspondent on the issue expressed concern that kabawa, a native but heavily populated, surbub of Lokoja, is gradually being noted for cultist activities in recent time.
