See road safety personnel as life savers not enemies, Unit commander tells motorists

Assistant Corps Commander,(ACC) Moses Aderibigbe Odogiyon, the new Unit Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Zariagi Unit command in Kogi State, has urged motorists in Zariagi, a suburb of Lokoja and the public at large to see members of staff of the Corps not as enemies but life savers.

Odogiyon,who gave the advice while speaking with Journalists at Zariagi on Friday, expressed displeasure at the uncomplimentary attitude of some drivers towards Corps personnel while these personnel perform their lawful duty.

He described FRSC personnel as officers whose primary function was to make traffic easy for people, to accomplish their daily businesses, including journey and to reduce carnage on highway to the barest minimum.

Odogiyon, who assumed duty on December 21,2021 in the unit, promised to intensify the enlightenment programne of the unit to educate motorists and other road users on the need to keep to traffic rules and regulations to save lives.

He reminded the public that road crash has no respect for anybody,irrespective of social status, adding that strict adherence to traffic laws remained the best solution to avert road accident.

He promised to interface with the stakeholders in road useage and management, especially Dangote transport section, to curb the unruly behaviour of the drivers of the company and other drivers while driving.

Odogiyon also expressed his resolve to meet with people of the Zariagi, the host community, with a view to seeing how the market located close to the road in the area could re adjusted in a way that it does not lead to narrowness of the road and to avert road crash.

He solicited the cooperation of Journalists in the state towards the success of his assignment, adding that the role of the media remained indispensable towards ensuring peace and developmnt of any society.

“No society can do without the input of Journalists. I will surely need their cooperation for the success of saving life on road which is my primary responsibility in the unit”, the unit commander said.

The unit commander disclosed that the unit recorded seven road crashes since the beginning of 2022 five of which were fatal at Apata, adding efforts were on to repair the bad portion of a bridge at Apata to check accident in the area.
