Thousands of commuters on Thursday, had the first dose of the annual go slow at the Lokoja-Abuja Highway with the attendant inconvincies, The Reporters investigation revealed.

Our Correspondent reports that the yearly ritual came barely 36 hours to Christmas and a week thereafter, New year celebrations.

Our Correspondent, who visited Kotonkarfe,a historic town located on the road, reports that the the go slow, which started with mostly articulated vehicles, began before Kotonkarfe, approaching Murtala Mohammed bridge as at the time of this report at about 2p.m.

Some travellers, who spoke with our Correspondent in Lokoja, called on the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to quickly check the alarming situation before it gets out of proportion.

Meanwhile, transport fare from Lokoja to Abuja and vis a versa, which used to cost N,2,000 has gone up to N4,000 per trip.

A traveler, who wants to remain anonymous, told our correspondent that ” the possibility of increasing the fare is not ruled out as the population of travellers to Abuja or coming to Lokoja surged at the Abuja and Lokoja motor parks.”

Speaking on the interview in another interview with the online publication from Abuja, Comrade Opaluwa Eleojo said,”I think, the federal government will need to complete the dualisation of that portion to give the lasting solution to this perennial problem.”
