The Chairman, Okene Local Government Area of Kogi State, Abdulrazak Muhammed Yusuf, has been suspended by the state House Of Assembly, with immediate effect over alleged undue arrest, intimidate and torture of indigenes.

Our Correspondent gathered that Yusuf’s suspension followed the adoption of a letter from the Executive, read on the floor of the House on Tuesday in Lokoja, by the Speaker Prince Kolawole Mathew, alleging abuse of power by the chairman.

According to the letter, the allegation was contained in the report from the Department of State Security Services (DSS) to Gov. Yahaya Bello.

The report alleged that the suspended chairman used his position as council chairman to carry out undue arrest, intimidation and torture of persons based on clannish colouration and faith.

Prince Kolawole directed the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to carryout an independent investigation and report back to the House, adding Yusuf remained suspended until investigations by the DSS and the House Committee were completed.

Kolawole who read the DSS report on the floor of the House had said the suspension was to enable the security agencies carry out their investigations without hindrances.

The speaker also directed the Vice Chairman of the Council to take over the affairs of the council with immediate effect.
