10-hour gridlock hits Kogi road, commuters groan

A gridlock covering about four kilometres,spanning ten hours on Tuesday, hit Ganaja-Gadumo road in kogi state, causing serious disrupting of free human and vehicular movement.

Our Correspondent monitoring the trend on the road reports that what started as a child’s play at about 6 a.m got worsened as from 10 a.m with long queue of vehicles bloating, particularly the articulated vehicles,some of which carry animals and perishable vegetables enroute eastern part of the country.

The Correspondent further reports that the long queue, which started from the vicinity of 500 housing estate,along the road had stretched to the bridge dividing Lokoja Local Governnent Area and Ajaokuta Local Governnent Areas of the state as at the time of this report at about 4.40 p.m.

The problem began to show ease with snaily movement of vehicles in sight when this report was published.

Sources told our correspondent that an eyebrow between revenue task force members and a driver of a truck conveying agricultural produce towards Ajaokuta area, over tax on such goods and the alleged puncturing of the tyre of the vehicle, sparked the problem.

As a result, many passengers were seen trekking to their various destinations while some drivers took the congested one lane of the road, starting from the Baptist High School axis towards 500 housing estate,to ease journey to their various destinations.

Some of the passengers that spoke with our Correspondent called on the relevant authorities to wade into the problem with a to resolving it on time.

They also called on the federal government to complete the rehabilitation of of the road it commenced November 2020.

What looks like an end to the problem became obvious at about 6 p.m as vehicles were seen moving freely to their destinations.
